Virginia Beach, Va. (May 21, 2009) - STIHL Inc. today announced the six collegiate lumberjacks who will compete in the 2009 national championship of the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Collegiate Challenge presented by Carhartt. The championship will take place during the professional STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® U.S. Championships in Columbus, Ga. June 20-21. The winner of the Collegiate Championship will earn a spot in the 2010 professional STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series.

Scarborough will join David Green from Central Oregon Community College, Curt Karboski from Paul Smiths College, Adam LaSalle from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Brad Sears from the University of Arkansas-Monticello and Montgomery Community Colleges Matt Slingerland in a head-to-head battle to earn a chop at the national championship title. The six amateur competitors will compete in four STIHL TIMBERSPORTS professional disciplines, the single buck, standing block chop, STIHL stock saw and underhand chop with the winner earning a spot in the 2009 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Professional Series.

"STIHL is proud to have Logan as the sixth competitor in the STIHL TIMBERSPORTSCollegiate Series Championship," said Roger Phelps, promotional communications manager for STIHL Inc. "Along with the other competitors, hes a great ambassador for the lumberjack sport with great commitment to the sport."

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Collegiate Series selected Scarborough because of his impressive performance at the Southern qualifier where he demonstrated his evident talent and skill. Unfortunately, along with six other competitors, Scarborough disqualified in the stock saw discipline, pushing him to third place. Scarborough finished first in the other three disciplines. There was a mere five-point spread between Scarborough and first-place Brad Sears.

When asked how he feels about receiving the wildcard pick and advancing to the Collegiate Championship, Scarborough only had one word, lucky.

Originally from Polkton, NC, Scarborough will enter his senior year this fall pursuing a degree in forest management. Hes been involved in lumberjack sports since his freshman year of college and has even trained a few times with STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series professional competitor Mike Slingerland this year. He plans to train with Slingerland at least once before the championship.

"Being selected as the wildcard pick and competing in the championship is awesome and I owe it all to Mike Slingerland," said Scarborough.

Since its inception in 2003, the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Collegiate Challenge on ESPNU identifies the top collegiate lumberjacks and provides them with an opportunity to advance in the sport and join the ranks of the professional STIHL TIMBERSPORTS elite.

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Collegiate Challenge includes five qualifying events and runs from the fall of 2008 to the summer of 2009. The Collegiate Series travels to schools around the country to challenge amateur lumberjacks in head-to-head competitions to determine the best all-around collegiate lumberjack.

Each athlete who qualifies for the Collegiate Championship receives travel and lodging compensation for themselves and a coach, vouchers for professional lumberjack competition equipment, training session with competitors from the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series and a check for $1,000 sent to their school in their name with the funds to be applied towards the scholarship or program of their choice.

The Aflac Outdoor Games is a three-day event scheduled for June 19-21 in Columbus, Ga. In addition to the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Collegiate Series and Professional Series Championships, the Aflac Outdoor Games will include sporting dog events and a national barbecue contest officially sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
