STIHL Low-Emission Engine Technologies
STIHL employs a variety of technologies to meet and exceed EPA and CARB requirements while meeting the needs of its customers. Various technologies utilized include stratified charge, catalytic converters and the STIHL 4-MIX®. STIHL bases the technology selected for a particular product on that which is best-suited to the product’s applications.
The STIHL 4-MIX® Engine
This revolutionary technology features a patented lubrication design that allows the 4-cycle engine to use standard STIHL 2-cycle (50:1) fuel mix, thus eliminating the extra oil tank for engine lubrication. The STIHL 4-MIX® engine is lightweight, powerful and has fast acceleration while exceeding current low-emission requirements. The STIHL Class IV and Class V 4-MIX® engines offer some of the cleanest running engines in their respective classes, according to the most recent information as posted
October 2008 on the EPA Web site.
